MY SPRING FLOWER BATH

springbath

If I had to imagine one and only Spring scent, this would be the one. I love this zesty yet flowery mix, which is like breathing Spring and happiness!

Light some candles around your bathtub and dive into this delicious blend, breathe deeply and renew.

What you need:

In a 100 ml glass bottle, mix the following:

50 ml of sweet almond oil

5 drops of orange blossom essential oil; citrus aurantium; relaxing and aphrodisiac

5 drops of red mandarin essential oil; citrus reticulata; calming, relaxing

5 drops of rose essential oil; rosa damascena; balancing and purifying. Rose is the « queen of flowers »; it is THE women essential oil because it has such a beneficial effects on the entire reproductive and nervous system.

5 drops of lavender essential oil; lavandula angustifolia; calms, relaxes, balances.

Create:

Pour all the ingredients in the glass bottle, and shake it well before pouring the mixture in the bath. Only pour the mixture once the bathtub is filled up, so that it prevents the essential oils from evaporating too quickly with the pressure of the running water.

Dive in, relax and breathe:)

Result: the skin is soft and smells like Spring, the mind is calm and uplifted at the same time.

SUMMER ELIXIRS

Before you go on long week-ends or holiday this Summer, you can prepare a few little bottles with your homemade elixirs and use them whenever needed. I chose 2 of my favorites for you to enjoy:

Purifying and toning oil for the face

This mix will purify while tone and regenerate the skin. Therefore, it’s also one you can do in the Spring. The smell is quite strong (if you aren’t used to essential oils, this may surprise you at first! Tea-tree and Everlasting have a very strong smell but they are so effective that it is worth to bear their potent fragrances).

What you need:

In a 50 ml glass bottle, mix 25 ml of rose hip seeds oil and 15 ml of apricot kernel oil.

Add the following essential oils:

6 drops of tea-tree; melaleuca alternifolia; highly cleansing and purifying

3 drops of Everlasting; helichrysum italicum; regenerates the skin and prevents wrinkles

3 drops of geranium; pelargonium graveolens; cleanses and balances sebum

Create:

This ritual is to be done in the evening. After cleansing your skin, spray a rose mist preferably or another of your favorite, then dry gently with a tissue to remove excess. But leave your skin a little bit wet though, ready to receive the massage with the above mixture.

Firmly shake the bottle and pour a small quantity of the mixture in your palm. Then, rub your hands and massage your face, starting with small circular movements on the cheeks, then onto the nose, back to the temples, forehead and chin. Repeat until fully absorbed by the skin.

Result: the skin is deeply purified, hydrated and refreshed.

Note: if you don’t find rose hip seed oil and apricot kernel oil, replace with sesame or argan oil. If this is still not available to you, use sweet almond oil.

An all-in-one hair and body oil

10 drops of lavender essential oil: lavandula angustifolia; calms sunburns and little skin rashes, stimulates skin cells regeneration.

Create:

SPRING COCONUT BALM

This is a very easy recipe to create. It can do it all. I use it for hair and body to hydrate, moisturize, nourish and condition deeply.

For the hair, I apply it either on the ends, or as a mask on the whole head. If you use it as a mask, you will need to take the amount needed according to the length and thickness of your hair. Massage the skull and comb gently. Put a towel on the head and keep it for 30 minutes. Then rinse with a very gentle organic shampoo. For the body, depending on the season, I use it either only on the hands and lips or on the whole body. Coconut oil is one of the  most beautiful treasures out there and I really enjoy, even on its own, without any essential oils added.

What you need (choose all organic if possible):

Coconut oil (it shows as a solid white balm)

Grapeseed oil

Benzoin essential oil (it’s actually a resin, so it is quite thick)

Rosemary essential oil

Lavender essential oil

A glass bowl

A spoon

Create:

The ratio to be used it approximately 2 spoons of coconut oil to 1 spoon of grape seed oil. This will make the balm softer and it will be easier to mix the essential oils. I love to use a very little concentration of essential oils for this balm. So, for the 2 to 1 ratio, I would recommend 3 drops of each essential oil. Then stir with the spoon until the mix becomes homogeneous. Lastly, pour it in a small container. I personally recycle lip balms aluminum containers but glass is always better if you find. Then keep it in the fridge.

SKIN REJUVENATION ELIXIR

Skin rejuvenation and repair is what you need all year long and especially in the Summer time. Scrubbing once a week (check my Pink Scrub) and applying a powerful regenerating elixir all over your body daily is the perfect combo.

Choose between those two recipes I just created. The first one takes less shopping and budget than the other. The results, either way, are very beautiful. You can always create your own personal version and play with my list a little bit, according to your « tastes » and fragrant preferences.

What you need:

50 ml sunflower oil

15 ml of calendula oil

30 to 40 drops of Sea Buckthorn oil

10 – 12 drops of geranium essential oil

8 – 10 drops of German chamomile essential oil

10 drops of lavender essential oil

Mix all ingredients (all certified organic if possible) in a 100 ml glass bottle and shake well. It’s always better to store in a cool place or at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Buy amber or blue glass bottles preferably.

For a more elaborate version of the above elixir, simply add the following to the mix:

30 to 40 drops of rose hip seed oil and 20 to 30 drops of evening Primrose oil; 5-6 drops of Neroli essential oil, 3 drops of Helichrysum essential oil, 3 drops of rose essential oil and 4 to 5 drops of sandalwood essential oil.

SUMMER

Summer is liberating and sensual. We take layers off, show more of our skin, are bathed with light. Our skin is our widest organ, so strong and so sensitive at the same time. Permeable and waterproof at the same time. We can think of exterior sources of protections like mineral (always) sunscreens, but mainly think of the following: eat plenty of antioxidant-rich food and really, really avoid extended sun exposure. Like with everything, it’s about portion control and try to be reasonable. For the fun, pick some of my Summer recipes and try them out. Help your body protect itself and most importantly enjoy the process of loving yourself and play.

SUMMER FLOWER MIST

rose and neroli mist

Buy the following 100% organic hydrosols and mix them together in a 150 ml or 200 ml spray bottle (preferably dark glass: blue, brown or green) and make sure the spray that is provided comes with a little cap for protection. Also, be careful that the little transparent tube within the bottle is properly cut, not squeezed, and also does not have little holes).

What you need:

50 ml neroli (orange blossom) floral water

30 ml rose floral water

15 ml lavender (lavandula angustifolia) floral water

5 ml hamamelis (witch hazel) floral water

They all contain carboxylic acids, which are very soothing to the skin.

Hydrosols are products from plants steam distillation processes (to create essential oils) and are amazingly fragrant, hydrating, refreshing, cooling. It’s enchanting to the spirit and has no restriction rules!

How to use it:

Spray it early morning to refresh and wake the skin up or simply cool it. You can do this all over your body and hair for a natural subtle fragrance and hydration boost, as a toner after cleansing the skin, after the sun to cool and soothe the skin, to fix make-up, etc. I personally keep my hydrosols in my fridge for maximum freshness and maximize the cooling effect. Enjoy!

FACE & BODY SUMMER ELIXIR

This is a Summer elixir to use on face and/or body after sun exposure, to rejuvenate, calm and nourish the skin.

Create:

In a 100 ml glass bottle (with dropper), mix the following:

30 ml of Evening primrose oil

60 ml of sweet almond oil OR Grapeseed oil (if you find the smell of sweet almond is too heavy)

5 drops of rose: Rosa damascena; it regenerates skin cells and has a powerful effect on fine lines. It is the most feminine of all essential oils and has a very stimulating effect on libido, plus a toning effect on the heart.

3 drops of geranium: Pelargonium graveolens; it has cleansing properties, stimulates blood flow and balances sebum.

TURMERIC LEMON CURE

It’s an uber simple recipe that you can totally do every single day of the year. It helps cleanse your digestive system and gives you a good Vitamin C boost. Turmeric (also known as curcuma) is a real health remedy, immune system booster, inflammation and infections fighter. It is also proven to block the spreading of cancer cells due mainly to its incredible antioxidant properties. If you don’t like drinking it in the lemon and water, you can use turmeric as a spice in your food.

What you need:

An organic lemon
Turmeric (either raw, peeled and mashed) OR in powder (easier to use AND you can find organic ones – but it’s always better to go for the raw and fresh root.
Warm water (not boiled)

How I prepare it:

I put some water to heat a few seconds, then just squeeze the juice of the lemon in a small glass, add the water and 3 dashes of turmeric powder, or half a pinkie of a mashed fresh turmeric root. Mix it and drink it (with a straw is great) on an empty stomach.

ALL YEAR POWER SMOOTHIE

Screen Shot 2014-05-02 at 18.35.57

I love this smoothie and keep on twisting the recipe depending on the season. The following works for Spring and Summer. If you love getting a smoothie when the cold season starts, you can add 1 or 2 teaspoon of Maca powder and replace the pineapple juice by freshly squeezed orange juice and the berries by one big apple or 2 small (preferably Pink ladies) + half of a ripe banana:

Ingredients for 2 big glasses of smoothie:

350 gr of frozen wild organic mixed berries

1/2 glass of freshly squeezed pineapple juice

1 glass of organic coconut water

The juice of an organic lime

If you love it (I do), you can also add a tiny little bit of organic cayenne pepper powder, especially when the cold season starts. Same as you would do with chocolate powder on your cappuccino. This is just to spice it up, if you feel like it.

Mix all the ingredients in a blender and pour it directly in two glasses to enjoy right away (you keep all the vitamins intact if you do so). Cut some fresh mint and mix it directly into the glass, that is nice too. If you like it sweeter, you can add some organic acacia honey or organic liquid stevia.

Result: tasting the sweetest and healthiest homemade drink, a wonder for skin, complexion and energy!
